| Introduction | |
|
Australian Lowline Cattle are definitely a "Beef Breed" and the result of a breeding programme in Australia to improve the Australian Angus Beef Herds.. This breeding programme extended over many years. Lowlines are compact animals without recessive genes and their size is about two thirds of normal Angus beef cattle. Lowline Cattle is a breed that is becoming more popular each year and the only breed in Australia with an annual increase of Association Members. |

| Advantages | |
| For the small block holder, or "Lifestyler",
Lowline Cattle have many advantages. They are light on the land, good
foragers reaching early maturity, easy to handle with a non aggressive
attitude and do not require a capital investment for extensive cattle
yards. They are also good to look at!
Lowline Bulls are sought after in the Dairy Industry for use with heifers. The small calf reduces calving problems. The meat from the progeny of this cross is becoming very acceptable to the discerning persons who are looking for beef in small cuts, low fat and tender attributes. |

| Tartan Farms | |
| Located at Mercer just South of the Bombay Hills, we run a herd of 30 purebred females and our principal interest is in the Lowline Cross Meat and supplying bulls to the dairy industry. | |
| Tartan Farms is owned by Robert Baird and Trish Rankin, who both take an active interest in the promotion of the breed. The Lowline herd at Tartan Farms goes back to some of the original breeding stock imported into New Zealand in the early 90's. It is a policy of Tartan Farms to breed quality stock. | |
