History
Lowline cattle are the wonderful result of a significant cattle research project, initiated by the NSW Department of Agriculture at the Trangie Research Centre in 1974. The project was established to investigate the effect of growth rate selection on herd profitability and to evaluate the efficiency of converting feed to beef within controlled herds of different size animals.

Lowline Cattle are direct descendants of the prized Aberdeen Angus herd established by the Trangie research center in 1929 and set up to provide a source of quality Angus Cattle for the New South Wales beef industry.

Appearance
Australian Lowline cattle are black in colour, polled, well proportioned, easy calvers and good mothers with an adequate milk supply. A major advantage is that the Australian Lowline Cattle Herd Book is closed, which means that you cannot breed-up as with many other breeds. All animals have to have a DNA that can go back to the original Australian Trangie and Glen Innes Research Herds. This maintains their value.
